In Summary: Excalibur Sauvignon Blanc is an exciting, fresh, food-friendly white wine. Although a great food wine, especially seafood, at Zonte’s Footstep, we drink most of the Excalibur wellchilled, on a sunny afternoon with friends and family… usually followed by a second glass!
Zontes’s Footstep is named after 19th century Zante currant vineyard as new plantings follow the original footstep. The currant business dried up, but Zonte’s Footstep becameour blueprint…
Zonte’s Footstep has been on a quest to grow the world’s best white varieties for more than a decade. Our ‘shining sword rising from the water’ moment wasn’t quite of Arthurian legend, but by misty dam early one vintage morning the first rapier-like cut of this Sauvignon Blanc inspired our Excalibur.
In 2003 a group of mates pooled old white ‘utes’ and new-ish tractors to grow the best grapes from the best vineyards. All we want to do is taste our fruit in our wine, so we charged our reigning winemaker, Mr. Ben Riggs, with one goal; to make wine true to vineyard so long as it is a bloody good drink!
The truth is out there in the vineyard…. but the proof is in this bottle!
This is how late chairman Evans OBE made us all do it. Vale Len. Vintage 1930; Decanted 2006.
