Winemaking: The 2012 vintage was low yielding in McLaren Vale but ideal for ripening and development of soft tannins; the building blocks of rich, lasting flavours. Grape size and bunches were smaller yet full of flavour and ripe tannins. These ideal vintage conditions were great for aromatic varietal expression. After fermentation on skins for a minimum of 5 days, this Shiraz was barrel aged for up to 14 months in carefully selected French and American oak barrels. Fifteen precent is matured in new oak barrels while the rest mature in 2 to 3 year old oak for complexity without oak domination.
The Wine:

The 2012 Shiraz shows a deep vibrant cerise colour with some youthful purple hues. Mint and spice aromatics belie the full but velvety smooth, lingering palate. Soft, yet powerful tannins offer the promise of a long lasting Shiraz evolving into secondary flavours with careful cellaring for up to 10 years.
Serving Suggestion:

Food Match Oven roasted lamb cutlet rubbed in dukkah served with saffron rice and mild green curry sauce or Chinese five spice confit of duck leg served with Asian greens and noodle

Jeremy Oliver - The Australian Wine Annual 2013

Very ripe and velvety, with deep, smoky and spicy aromas of black cherries, cassis and dark plums assertively backed by mocha/coffee ground oak and lifted whiff of blue flowers. It’s juicy, almost syrupy, with a thick, jammed mouthfeel of creamy oak and smooth, intense dark fruits underpinned by very fine, plaint tannins. It finishes with a hint of spirit warmth.

Andrew Graham - Australian Wine Review, November 2012

A killer year for Vale Shiraz and this well packaged red does it well.

Seriously Inky coloured - a Bic dark red by my reckoning (the gel inks in the decent Bic pens, not the cheap gooey stuff), this is really rather juicy, flowing with deep blackberry fruit and minimal obvious oak influence. The palate too is all rich fruit in that round, sunny skies Vale style. Strictly speaking there isn't much tannins to speak of and the alcohol stunts the finish a little but that plush mid palate is unquestionably attractive. Good modern Vale red.
