Product Description

Robert Oatley Shiraz

Region: 70% Frankland River (Western Australia), 30% Mudgee, (New South Wales)

Winemakers James Manners, Trent Nankivell and Rebecca Kidd

Vintage Current Vintage (Enquiries Welcome)

This Shiraz, whilst a single varietal wine, is a unique blend of grapes from across the country. Consequently it began life as two seperate wines, from the low-yielding 15 year old Acacia Hill, Frankland River vineyard in the Great Southern, Western Australia and Ian Oatley’s northern Mudgee Wooloomooloo property 3000 kms to the East. The wines were made in a similar fashion, then matured, blended and bottled at the family’s Mudgee winery.

Bouquet and Palate Frankland’s plush, blueberry and spice characters and Mudgee’s ripe, chocolatey flavours and soft velvety tannins have combined to deliver a very smart wine indeed.

Barrel Ageing: 16 months in a combination of new and one to four year old French oak

Cellar: From 5 to 10 years

Analysis
ALC/VOL: 14.5%
RS: 0.4g/litre
pH: 3.70
TA: 5.85g/litre

“Our wines reflect both a proud winemaking heritage and contemporary, innovative Australian wine styles - crafted and bottled at the family estate in Mudgee, Australia. I hope you enjoy drinking these wines as much as we enjoyed making them.” Robert Oatley

This delicious, ground-breaking blend of grapes from opposite sides of the country owes its generosity to Mudgee and its elegance to Frankland River. Full-flavoured and stylish, it drinks beautifully upon release and will cellar well.

REGION NOTES

Taking the best of both worlds and in a case of newest meets oldest, this wine combines the relatively young, cool continental vineyards of the rising star Frankland River, Great Southern appellation with the older, historic, warmer continental climate of Mudgee. Both have been prized for their Shiraz wines, with the former tending to be lighter and more ethereal and the latter full-bodied and somewhat rustic. Combined, they make a beguiling wine that will delight varietal purists and confound the single vineyard-single region sticklers. The proof is in the glass.

VINTAGE NOTES

A very good, unprecedently early vintage with smaller crops of very good to high quality grapes in both Western Australia and Mudgee.
