Grape Varietals Shiraz and Primitivo
Winemaker Tim Smith
Aroma and Palate Our house style of Barossa Shiraz, lifted aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper with spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate has benefited from the addition of Primitivo, native to southern Italy, adding vibrant cranberry, raspberry and strawberry flavours. The finish is long with fine grained tannins from eighteen months maturation in oak.

Heritage
Château Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of the very first vines planted in the Barossa in the 1840s as well as the valley’s first winery. “The Château” is an Australian
heritage icon and its grand buildings, magnificent gardens and prime vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue a century-old tradition of fine winemaking.
Philosophy
The Tower is the grand entrance to The Château and the Barossa Tower range is your gateway to a contemporary selection of wines for everyday drinking, from both classic and
new varieties, highlighting the Barossa’s rich diversity.
Winemaking
This unique blend is sourced from our growers’ vineyards in the Barossa sub-regions of Bethany, Kalimna (bush vine Primitivo), Lyndoch, Stonewell, Tanunda and Vine Vale. The
grapes were de-stemmed, but not crushed, and were fermented separately spending seven days on their skins in open fermenters with regular hand plunging and pumping over to
more gently extract colour, flavour and tannin. This was followed by careful basket pressing and malolactic fermentation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French
oak hogsheads prior to eighteen months’ maturation in our cellars.
